Museobottega della Tarsialignea is located in Palazzo Pomarici Santomasi, in the historical centre of Sorrento. The museum consists of three floors and contains a unique collection of paintings, prints, furniture and objects in wood marquetry.
A collection of inlaid works and objects dating back to the 19th century: furnishings, utensils, caskets, cigar cases, boxes, paintings, bookends, tables, travel mirrors, frames and much more. Everything can be traced back to the early 19th century, when the production of works with inlaid wood began in Sorrento too. It was the time of the Grand Tour, when foreigners and travellers loved to stay in Sorrento for long periods of time and during their stay they would purchase the precious artefacts.
There are three thematic sections: Sorrento in the 19th century, Tarsia in Italy from the 15th to the 19th century and Sorrento Tarsia in the 19th century.
