Ortigia

Ortigia is the city’s beautiful historic centre. It is a small island connected to the mainland by three bridges, and its maze of alleyways contains the city’s most important buildings and monuments: from the Temple of Apollo to Castle Maniace, via the stunning Piazza Duomo and its Baroque treasures. Another jewel kept in Ortigia is the famous Fonte Aretusa, a freshwater spring that gushes out in a cave just a few steps from the sea. Papyri make the fountain one of the most fascinating places to visit. It is one of the most beautiful places in Italy and there are few words to describe it! During the day, you will enjoy strolling along the narrow streets and squares, while in the evening the centre comes alive with all the most characteristic restaurants and bars in Syracuse.
