Marine Protected Area of Punta Campanella

The Marine Protected Area of Punta Campanella stretches between the provinces of Naples and Salerno, and crosses the municipalities of Massa Lubrense, Piano di Sorrento, Positano, Sant’Agnello, Sorrento and Vico Equense. It is an area of worldwide importance in terms of landscape, nature and history.

It was created to preserve one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in Italy. The territory protected by the park is characterised by high biodiversity, which has made the area the subject of worldwide studies. Here it is possible to observe the rare phenomenon of vegetation inversion, karst phenomena that have created many caves in the limestone landscape that are now underwater, such as the Grotta della Cala di Mitigliano, and several botanical and faunal endemic species. Birds are among the easiest animals to spot. Ischia, Capri and Procida, and the Sorrento Peninsula are transit destinations for several species of migratory birds. Monte San Costanzo, Monte Sant’Angelo and the Malacoccola are landmarks for birdwatching lovers.

Among the historical and artistic monuments, the park houses the sumptuous Roman holiday villas, the Sanctuary of Athena and the Coastal Towers.
If you are planning to visit the Protected Marine Area of Punta Campanella, then be ready for an incredible spectacle. The Bay of Ieranto is particularly beautiful.
