The Museo della Cartapesta Leccese represents the first important collection of works and models by the great cartapestai (papier-mâché makers) of Terra d’Otranto. Around the 18th century, the entire Salento area was invaded by papier-mâché sculptures, thanks to the mastery of papier-mâché workers and their workshops.
A unique collection in a special location such as the Castle of Charles V. The collection consists of around 100 works by the masters Pantaleo, Gallucci, Caretta, Capoccia, Mazzeo, Errico and Gaucci, covering a time span from the 18th century to the present day.
