The Gargano National Park holds an incredible natural treasure with many different habitats concentrated on such a small portion of land: forests, Mediterranean scrub, karst plateaus, cliffs, caves, lagoons, hills, island steppes and marshes. The Tremiti Islands are also part of this protected area, together with the Foresta Umbra, which is all that remains of the original and ancient forest of the Gargano promontory. The park is home to many rare and endemic animal and plant species, as well as the most important wild orchid heritage in Europe and the Mediterranean: we are talking about no less than 56 orchid species.
