The Church of Santa Maria del Soccorso is one of the most striking attractions on the island. It is located on the top of the Soccorso promontory and is, together with the Torrione, a symbol of Forio. Originally, it was an old convent of Augustinian friars (1350-1653). Its current appearance, typical of churches in ancient maritime villages, dates back to 1864.

Those arriving to Forio by hydrofoil will easily spot it, thanks to its white, defined shape against the blue of the sky and sea. Greek-Byzantine, Moorish and Mediterranean art merge in its simple and harmonious style. It is accessed from Piazzale del Soccorso via a flight of steps covered with precious 18th-century majolica.

Around the church there is a large terrace overlooking the breathtaking horizon of Forio: the perfect place to enjoy the most beautiful sunsets and, with a bit of luck, admire the Green Flash.
