The Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista was built in the 8th century in the new city district, on top of the hill overlooking old Ragusa. Before 1693 earthquake, the Cathedral of San Giovanni was located in the old centre of Ragusa.
Many carvings, statues and stuccoes decorate the façade, which is divided into five parts by large columns and has three portals. The 50-metre high bell tower is clearly visible on the side.
