Capo Carbonara Marine Protected Area

The Capo Carbonara Marine Protected Area is a vast marine park stretching from Capo Boi to Punta Porceddus. It is divided into three zones with different degrees of protection. The seabed is rich in typical Mediterranean fish fauna. In these waters lives the Pinna nobilis, the largest bivalve mollusc in our seas. Then there are dolphins, barracudas and red lobsters. The flora is characterised by dense shoals of posidonia, sea daisies and gorgonia. The underwater scenery is made up of granite rocks that form pinnacles, depressions and the characteristic tafoni. At Secca di Cala Caterina, diving enthusiasts will enjoy this fantastic scenery, while bird lovers will find their entertainment at the Notteri Pond with its pink flamingos and black-winged stilts. The Protected Marine Area also includes Isola dei Cavoli with its Mediterranean vegetation, Isola Serpentara with its Variglioni and the beaches of Villasimius.
