Large, wild beaches of fine white sand sloping gently into the sea characterise this coastal side of Calabria facing the Ionian Sea. The waters are crystal clear. Many beaches can be seen flying the Blue Flag of the FEE. The Ionian Coast is divided into Costa dei Gelsomini, in Reggio Calabria, Costa degli Aranci, in the Gulf of Squillace, among the most beautiful in the region, Costa dei Saraceni, between Cariati and Crotone, with the Capo Rizzuto Marine Protected Area, and Costa degli Achei, in the Cosenza area, which includes Sibari and its Archaeological Park.
With its fertile soil, the Mediterranean maquis also offers a wide choice of food and wine products, to be savoured between baths, such as Canolo bread seasoned with Locride’s extra virgin olive oil, Caciocavallo di Ciminà and Cirò wine.
