Where luxury is at home
The glittering shop windows on the island of Capri captivate and fascinate tourists strolling through the historic centre and the most important streets: luxury boutiques, designer stores, high-end artisanal perfumeries and shops where you can buy the famous limoncello made from the lemons of this fantastic land.
If you would like to purchase a product that can only be found on the Blue Island, we recommend a visit to the ‘Sandals of Camphor‘ workshop. In the workshop, customers measure their foot and then choose the decorations and colour of the bands, which will then be sewn on the spot. This activity has always attracted world-famous personalities such as Jackie Kennedy who loved to choose her sandals alone at midnight. Grace Kelly, Maria Callas, Sofia Loren, Anita Ekberg and Naomi Campbell have also been in love with these very special Caprese shoes. In short, a real timeless cult!
Another irresistible shopping street is Via le Botteghe, where you can stop by Dassios, a Greek designer, or Italian Daniela Gregis, and dream on with Jamin Puech bags, often worn by actresses in the film “Sex and The City 2”, or designer clothes by Dries Van Noten. For those who love an original, bold and strong style, we recommend stopping by Blue, at number 57.
Capri is also famous for the production of artisan perfumes, a very ancient tradition that has its roots in the 1400s, when the monks of the Certosa di San Giacomo used to macerate the island’s flowers and herbs in alcohol. An iconic company in this field is certainly Carthusia: in its laboratory in Via Camerelle you can choose your favourite essence from fragrances based on aloe, bergamot, mimosa and citrus fruits.
In the town of Anacapri – more precisely in Piazza Vittoria – there is Mariorita, the boutique of the five-star Capri Palace Hotel & Spa. In this v temple of luxury, one can see the creations by Armani, Versace, Escada, Trussardi and Hugo Boss. One of the most popular souvenirs, however, is a good bottle of limoncello, to be enjoyed chilled and perhaps accompanied by a slice of Caprese cake, made with almonds and cocoa.
