Just outside the city, the coast of Syracuse appears as a long strip of land where crystal-clear sea crashes onto fine sand. The mostr striking beaches are Fontane Bianche, about 700 metres long and characterised by its white, white sand, Arenella, quieter and suitable for families with children, and Punta Asparano, which still retains its wild nature with its coves.
The Island of Currents, in Portopalo, is unspoilt and suspended in time. Very few human interventions can be seen: a small military structure, a lighthouse now in disuse, and a couple of dwellings. Here, the sea and wind meet colouring the island with ever-changing hues!
