Attractions in Val di Noto

Art and culture

The towns of the Val di Noto are wonderful examples of the late Baroque style. After the devastating earthquake of 1693, we witnessed a progressive rebirth of the entire area;Noto, Ragusa, Scicli and Modica flourished again. Included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the group of villages represents the utmost expression of this important artistic and architectural movement.

The value of the heritage enclosed in these centres is inestimable: from the imposing Dome of San Giorgio of Modica, to the disarming beauty of Ragusa Ibla with its 42 Baroque churches, to the fantastic churches of Scicli, and the opulent noble palaces famous for the decorative fantasies of their balconies. Another gem of this location is the Castle of Donnafugata, in Ragusa, an aristocratic villa from the 1800s, surrounded by a park of almost eight hectares.

Come and discover these open-air museums: you will discover an unusual and fascinating side of Sicily!
