Syracuse-Malta International Regatta

For sea lovers spending their holidays in this beautiful location, it is worth knowing that one of the oldest and most popular regattas is staged here: the Syracuse-Malta International Regatta. Born in 1952 from an idea of sailor John Illingworth, captain of the Royal British Navy, today this competition, organised by the Italian Naval League and the Royal Malta Yacht Club, is attended by around 100 yachts, divided into race, classic and cruise categories. This sporting event has a special feature: in even years the start is from Malta’s capital Valletta, while in odd years the start is from the port of Syracuse. If you are near Porto Grande, don’t miss the finish: the Fountain of Arethusa will be the backdrop to the exciting moment!
