Antonio Mazzella Winery was founded in 1940 with the aim of producing wine for fellow villagers. Thanks to next generations, the winery reaped the results of years of sacrifice and commitment: in 1991, the first D.O.C. wine, Ischia Bianco, was produced. It was later changed to Biancolella and then Vigna del Lume. Today, production is around 100,000 bottles of D.O.C. per year and between 30 and 50,000 table wines.
The Vigna del Lume, flagship of Mazzella’s heroic viticulture, was awarded at Vinitaly as the best wine of the year in 2018.
The entire process leading up to vinification, from harvesting to pressing the grapes, is carried out by hand. Then, the must is left to age in ancient cellars dug into the tuff, where it will be stored until bottling.
