Villa San Michele was the residence of the Swedish doctor and writer Axel Munthe, who lived on the island for more than fifty years. Built on the remains of an ancient Roman chapel dedicated to San Michele, today the villa offers a fabulous view and suggestive corners. Loggias and pergolas decorated with columns of fine Greek marble, plants and flowers colour a vast Mediterranean garden overlooking the gulf. Inside there is a museum with archaeological finds recovered on the island by the Swedish doctor.
