Roman Amphitheatre of Syracuse

Within the Neapolis Archaeological Park, the Roman Amphitheatre of Syracuse is the first monument visitors come across, but also the most recent. Unfortunately, not much remains of the Amphitheatre, given the extensive medieval spoliation, but it is still one of the largest amphitheatres ever built in history. Its dimensions almost reached those of the Arena in Verona. The visible parts are those in the arena and the lower cavea, together with the service tunnel, used as access to the theatre.
