The National Archaeological Museum of Naples contains the most important collection of art works and archaeological artefacts in the country. It consists of three main sections: the Farnese, the Pompeian and the Egyptian collection, second only to the Egyptian Museum in Turin.
Major restoration and renovation works on the building, that began in 2012, will allow some collections not yet on public display to be accommodated. These are the section on Magna Graecia, the Cumaean section and the section on Pompeian statuary.
