Duomo of Syracuse

The Duomo of Syracuse, located in the charming homonymous square on the island of Ortigia, is one of the city’s most important monuments. Built on the remains of the ancient Greek temple of Minerva, it brings together many different styles and eras. The façade was completely rebuilt in the Baroque style in the 18th century, by Palermo architect Andrea Palma. It is one of the best Baroque examples in Syracuse. the structure is Byzantine with three naves The towering Doric columns of the ancient Greek temple are visible on the left side of the cathedral, both outside and inside the building.
