The Duomo of Ravello is a basilica of Benedictine-Cassinese origin, dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta. It dates back to the end of the 11th century. The chapel houses the relics of the city’s main patron saint, San Pantaleone, whose blood liquefies on 27 July, his martyrdom day.
The ancient crypt of the Basilica houses the Museo dell’Opera, containing exhibits of historical, artistic and archaeological interest, such as the portrait of Sigilgaida Rufolo and the Falconer, which have also been displayed at the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen in Mannheim.
