Archaeological Park of Paestum

The Archaeological Park of Paestum, declared World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1988, includes three amazingly well-preserved Doric temples: the Temple of Hera, the Temple of Neptune and the Temple of Caecere. Important buildings such as the Thermaethe Amphitheatre, the Forum Portico and the Temple of Peace date back to Roman times. Not far from the archaeological area, it is possible to visit the Archaeological Museum of Paestum, opened in 1952, which houses – among many priceless artefacts – the impressive Tomb of the Diver, a unique example of painting in Magna Graecia. Also worth seeing are the Roman Section and the Sculptures from the Sanctuary of Hera at Sele.
