Shopping in the Aeolian Islands

Traditional products

Handicrafts, food and wine, brightly coloured fabrics, cosmetics for your beauty care. The typical products of the Aeolian Islands are a real temptation for your palate and eyes. If you are looking for a little souvenir of the seven sisters, then we recommend a few shops where you can satisfy your shopping craving! Let’s start with the big sister, Lipari. On Corso Vittorio Emanuele and the near Via Garibaldi and Via Maurolico you will find fashion and local products shops. Also on the main Corso you will find the Erboristeria Panacea, where you can buy natural essences recommended by kind Signora Anna and her son, and Keraméion, a nice handmade ceramics shop. For ceramics enthusiasts, we suggest stopping by Zizzì on Via Garibaldi. where you can find Oxidian objects and other pieces of art. Moreover, since 1970, Ceramiche Stefano, in Marina Corta, has been offering jewellery inspired by the bright colours of the Sicilian archipelago. Jewellery lovers can pay a visit to Francesco Berté’s shop: I Gioielli del Mare. This talented goldsmith created the famous ‘Aeolian wedding ring’, forged in lava and gold. You will be seduced by Aeolian flavours by Fratelli Laise and D’Anieri Bartolo’s Supermarket, with capers, malvasia, cucunci and much more! Marisa Artisan Restaurant-Laboratory in Pianoconte and the D’Ambra Pastry Shop are a paradise for typical desserts!

In Vulcano, Fabrizio Lo Piccolo’s Old Farm, produces delicious ricotta with local goat’s milk and cheese flavoured pistachio, chilli, capers and olives, and black pepper. Since this island is characterised by strong volcanic activity, you can buy face and body creams made from mud and thermal water. Finally, in Antonio Berté’s shop, I Gioielli del Mare, you can find jewellery made from starfish, coral and sea urchins. If you move on to Salina, you cannot pass up an excellent bottle of Malvasia, the golden wine of the Aeolian Islands. In Lena, Val di Chiesa, there is Salvatore D’Amico’s Agrobiological Company, which is one of the best on the island due to the chemical-physical nature of the soil. Here, cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil is also produced. Since the 19th century in Malfa, Azienda Agricola Fenech has been producing Malvasia, usually served with dry pastries and almond paste desserts, as well as Grappa and both white and red wines.

Panarea Panarea is the island of luxury and small craft shops. At Moda Mare Panarea, Madame Francesca Arena makes handmade leather sandals, and is always aware of current trends. In this little shop, you can choose to customise your footwear with special decorations and your favourite colours. Barbara Calabresi, on the other hand, dyes natural yarns such as wool, linen and fine silk. Colours are extracted from plants and mineral salts and fabrics are worked with a traditional loom. If you like painted clothes, then you should go to Pucci Poggi, in San Pietro, where the owner paints on cotton, linen and gauze, but also on synthetics, using bright colours! In Stromboli, Atelier of Paola Saffioti will leave you speechless: her expressive paintings represent the real soul of this evanescent island. Works are created on old door and window shutters or on glass. Another great artist is Federica Masin Russo: her favourite subjects are the volcano, black sand, the island’s vegetation and the sea. If you are looking for lava stone jewellery, you must go to Alessandro Aria: his creations are all different and unique. At Non Solo Cocci, owner Saverio will take you on a magical journey among colours and sophistication!

If you love ancient culinary art, you should definitely visit Lucia’s Bakery in Filicudi and tr traditional pane caliautu and delicious cassatelle. Marina Klemente, a set designer of Neapolitan origin, has set up her studio in a cave where she exhibits her works: lamps of various sizes recreated from tree trunks, prickly pear remains and pieces of glass. A true master in decorating ceramics is certainly Francesca Mosconi , whose use of bright colours brings out the true nature of the island. In the small community of Alicudi we can still find families producing creels, baskets and baskets, and stuffing bottles.
