Main attractions
Villa San Michele was the residence of Swedish physician and writer Axel Munthe, who lived on the island for more than fifty years. Built on the remains of an ancient Roman chapel dedicated to St Michael, today the villa offers fabulous views and corners. Loggias and pergolas decorated with columns of fine Greek marble, plants and flowers colour a vast Mediterranean garden overlooking the gulf. Inside, you can visit a museum with archaeological finds recovered on the island by the Swedish doctor.
