Il Gargano is a truly fascinating destination; from the coast to the most perched villages, you can witness incredible scenery suspended in time! The green Apulian promontory has always retained a strong naturalistic vocation, clearly visible in the Gargano National Park. Established in 1991, the entire area covers 118,144 hectares including the beautiful Tremiti Islands. Within the park is the Umbra Forest, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Three zones can be distinguished: the beech forest, consisting mostly of beech, hornbeam and maple trees, oaks, linden and turkey oaks, and the Mediterranean forest. Between Peschici and San Menaio, a 700-year-old monumental Aleppo pine over 20 metres tall stands out: the Zappino dello Scorzone.
The Federician castles are the real cultural treasure of this territory. The most visited are Vieste, a royal fortress overlooking the sea, and Peschici, famous for its tower and built to defend the town from Saracen raids. Come discover what to see in Gargano!
